Hasakah, Syria – On Wednesday, the Moscow peace talks –which bring together the Syrian regime delegation and representatives of the Syrian opposition in the Russian capital– started after two days of consultations between the 30 figures representing a number of political factions of the opposition to reach a unified position towards important issues, amid the absence of representatives from the Syrian National Coalition SNC (main opposition body).
Under the banner of “Moscow Forum”, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, called on the members of the two delegations during the conference to unite in order to confront the threat of terrorism.
“We believe that the politicians’ understanding for civil society and the need to unite to fight terrorism must be the key for the unity of the Syrian people.”
Qadri Jamil, former Minister of the Syrian regime who lately joined the ranks of the opposition, said that the other demands are allowing the arrival of food supplies to all areas of Syria, the establishment of a human rights commission and ending the sanctions imposed on the country.
He added that any resumption of a peace process must be based on the agreements reached in Geneva, in which the parties have agreed to form a Transitional Governing Body with a full power.
Sherif Ferman, member of the Central Committee of the Kurdish Yeketi Party in Syria, stated to ARA News that Russia was and remains the main supporter of the Syrian regime “and its devastating war against its people, and this was demonstrated by their repeated use of the veto against any resolution concerning the Syrian crisis in the Security Council”.
“Russia covered up atrocities of the Assad regime against the Syrian people,” Ferman said. “It (Russia) is part of the Syrian problem; it lacks credibility and does not have the initiative and legitimacy to resolve the Syrian crisis.”
“As long as this regime is in power, Syria will remain a scene of crimes and haven for terrorist groups. So any negotiations must be based on the principle of the departure of this criminal regime,” Ferman told ARA News.
