Deir ez-Zor, Syria – On Monday, 5 civilians were reported dead in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor city amid clashes between militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and rebels of al-Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra).
Fayez Abdul Aziz, civil activist based in Deir ez-Zor, told ARA News that the clashes erupted between al-Nusra fighters and ISIL group in the vicinity of the ISIL-held town of al-Buseira.
“The clashes claimed lives of 5 civilians in the town, three of them were from one family,” Abdul Aziz reported.
Al-Buseira clashes started earlier on Sunday, and claimed lives of at least 6 fighters from Jabhat al-Nusra so far, while 5 ISIL militants were reportedly killed.
Local sources reported that al-Nusra fighters took several ISIL militants as hostages in al-Buseira town, east of Deir ez-Zor city.
Meanwhile, local activists told ARA News that al-Nusra Front and fighters from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) backed by other Islamic brigades seized several villages in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, including al-Jee’a, Mihemidah, Kasra, Hamar al-Kasra, Hamar Ali, al-Hisan, and Husseiniya, after clashes with al-Qaeda splinter group of ISIL.
