Deir ez-Zor, Syria – At least 12 militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) were reported dead on Saturday during clashes with fighters the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor city, east of Syria.
Faiz Abdul Aziz, civil activist based in the city of Deir ez-Zor, told ARA News that the clashes erupted between ISIL members and FSA brigades (backed by Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic Front west of the city.
“The clashes resulted in the death of 12 ISIL militants and 5 FSA fighters,” Abdul Aziz reported.
ISIL group regained control over the villages of al-Hijna and Hirejiyeh in Deir ez-Zor countryside, one day after the FSA-linked Islamic brigades controlled them.
The growing violence in Deir ez-Zor province forced displacement of thousands of civilians.
This comes amid clashes between the pro-regime forces and opposition fighters of the FSA in al-Hiweqa district in Deir ez-Zor city.
