Hasakah, Syria – The Assistant Regional Secretary of the ruling Baath Party, Hilal Hilal, visited on Tuesday the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria. Hilal, who was accompanied by a group of Syrian and Lebanese TV channels loyal to the regime, walked through the central part of the city and talked to owners of commercial shops and other citizens asking about their situations and demands, and their views regarding the presidential elections taking place on the 3rd of June.

Hilal also met a delegation of Arab tribes at the Baath Party’s Headquarter in Hasakah city, local sources reported.

A source close to the delegation (preferred anonymity) told ARA News that the Arab tribal leaders who met Hilal expressed their discontent and disapproval of “the practices of the Kurdish military and security forces of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and their control over many areas, public roads and buildings of governmental institutions in Hasakah city”.

“The Arab tribal leaders also expressed their discontent with the aggression of the PYD’s armed men against the Arab militants of the National Defence (linked to the regime), killing many civilians and looting the wheat and cotton productions from the state-owned wheat storage silos and cotton gins which fall under their control,” the source said.

The same source added that the Arab delegation expressed their disagreement with the PYD and accused it of trying to build a “separatist entity within the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic”, calling on the Leadership of the Baath Party to take “firm actions to maintain the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Syrian national principles”.

“However, the Arab leaders described the Kurds as part of Syria’s social fabric and explained that their disagreement is only with the separatist group of the PYD,” the source told ARA News.

Noteworthy, leaders of several Arab tribes have released few statements in the last few days condemning “the practices of the PYD”.

Meanwhile, many Syrian government officials and Baath Party leaders visited the governorate of Hasakah in the last period to call for support to the candidacy of President Bashar al-Assad in the presidential elections which will be held on the 3rd of June. The last of these officials was Hilal Hilal.
